Principal's Message

Dear Sunnyslope Families,

My name is Chance Whiteman, the proud principal for the Sunnyslope School Eagles! Welcome to the 2019/2020 school year! This is my 5th school year with Sunnyslope and I am excited to continue our journey of academic growth and success with the entire Sunnyslope community!

Sunnyslope School is also a Kids at Hope school that focuses on the whole-child. Simply stated, this means that adults on the Sunnyslope campus believe that all children are capable of success, no exceptions! Sunnyslope School is a National Model for this core belief in success for all kids! In the Kids at Hope ideology, adults are Treasure Hunters, which look for, and find, the hidden treasures that are present in every child on our campus. This school year parents/guardians, families, and our community will continue to be invited to our Four Destination Days. We believe these days will help with the academic, social and emotional growth of all our students. Parents and guardians are also invited to come to campus and be trained in the Kids at Hope philosophy. To find more information about Kids at Hope, please visit www.kidsathope.org

This school year we will also continue our PBIS citizenship program for all students. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. We believe this framework will help with our school mission of creating lifelong learners and building a successful future for all.

TEACHING and REACHING the WHOLE CHILD:

Social, Emotional, and Academic Growth at Sunnyslope

1.)  SOCIAL – Sunnyslope is a National Model School for the Kids at Hope philosophy. This means that adults at Sunnyslope believe and practice that all children are capable of success…No Exceptions!

2.)  EMOTIONAL – Sunnyslope is a PBIS school! The use of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports creates an environment where students and staff are safe, responsible and respectful! Behavior incidents have decreased the past two school years and Sunnyslope was awarded the Bronze Medal award from PBISAZ for the 2018 school year.

3.)  ACADEMIC – Between 2015 and 2019, Sunnyslope has increased by 12% in overall Math achievement and 5% in ELA achievement.
